Failed Carbonara Chef

Instead of blogging about my Beef session in Singapore, I would like to share my experience of me cooking Angel Hair Carbonara for the very first time. Those who know me well enough knows I dislike cooking and for those who don’t, well now you know haha.

I was eating Fettuccini Carbonara for lunch one day and was watching how this person was cooking it. So I was thinking “Hey that is easy! I can try it myself.” Was in Carrefour with my family on Saturday evening, since I was there, I bought Cream – Payson Breton Cream.

Sunday came;
Ingredients set out to be cooked. Here we have the Egg, Cream in the box still, Angel Hair in the Pot and Sausages.

Not to forget:Onion and Garlic diced, Salt, Parmesan Cheese (I don’t have a lot of this sadly), of course some Olive Oil (I had to use Corn Oil because I ran out of Olive Oil, Butter is even better if you have salted types) and the rest was shown before that bowl is the cream and egg blended in.

Salt, Onion and Garlic diced close-up
Parmesan Cheese close-up
I would have taken the process of the whole cooking, but I forgot where I left my camera phone haha. But being the first time, I was in such a panicky feeling I would have forgotten anyway if I had my camera phone nearby anyway haha.

The outcome of me cooking Carbonara for the time:Looks presentable, but I think I cooked the Angel Hair too long haha. It felt soggy and note to self, no egg in cream next time, made the whole dish tasted flaky and too creamy and no using Angel Hair; it didn't taste as good as normal Spaghetti (that or it is just me :P). I also forgot to add some salted butter to the Angel Hair before drowning it in the sauce haha. I sure failed big time! Next time, I am going to try with bacon instead of sausages or maybe both.

Faisal Admar : Oligo? I don't know about that haha. I am really lousy with food.. I am good at eating them hahaha.

Haha..it's aglio olio. Pasta cooked with olive oil, garlic and chilli flakes. You may add seafood if you like. That's my fav pasta dish but I have never attempted cooking it.

Remember my baking disaster? Well...you can always try again until you get it right :)

Never say die, LOL.

Mei Teng : That's right! Thanks Mei Teng. I am never a seafood person in pasta. I think the seafood fishyness takes over the taste in the rest of it haha. Well, everyone to their opinion :P.

I had cooking disaster alot! I remember once I tried to Lemon Sauce Salmon, I over fried the Salmon, Ruined the Lemon sauce... and no one dare eat it. I ended up having to finish it all by myself.. I never cooked for 6 years after that.

But yes I believe I can keep trying to make it good ^-^. So you should too! Never give up!

Willie : yep it does looks (looks only) yummy :P. But cause the Angel Hair was too soft, it didn't taste all that good :P. Thank you for dropping by :).

яіи†akase : You never seen Carbonara Spaghetti before? o.O Of course my cooking looks way different from outside cooking haha.. my looks more weird :x. Restaurants' carbonara spaghetti would be more presentable :p.

ok i see, the bride&wife to be is studying to cook huh? it's good to use cream but you should estimate how much to put, i don't usually put everything. bacon and ham is better to use, tastier and the tiny bits goes as you fork the noodles. =) you may include mushrooms too =)

ladyviral said...

Faisal Admar : Haha. Half the time I won't remember when I see it on the menu what it is anyway :P.

Unseen Rajasthan : Yea looks good only :P. But I know I can do better without the family pressure walking around me -_-.

ladyviral said...

Ayie : Hahaha.. why does everyone think that just cause I am learning to cook, I am cooking cause I am a bride / wife to be? :P I always learn to cook when my fmaily isn't around. I cook for my own survival haha! Yes I am mean :P.

Yes bacon and ham would be good, but at that time I didn't have any at home :P and i forgot to buy. So make do with what I have haha. Oh not so much cream? So do you add more water in it to make it more watery with sauce?

don't give up. i bet there's always room for improvement. i'm not a kitchen goddess either but as long as my hubby knows how to eat, that's all that matters. :)

Faisal Admar said...

hehe do you know how to cook pizza?

ladyviral said...

Life Ramblings : Yep i believe so too. Practice makes perfect. But now to hope my mood will let me do so haha. Thank God my fiance isn't a picky eater.

ladyviral said...

Faisal Admar : Pizza? Nope. I barely cook, can't even steam a fish properly :P.

I know nuts about cooking! I only know how to cook pasta and add in the ready made sauce bought from supermarket! Haha!

Ayie said...

haha it's a common bride to be statement my dear =)

you only cook for your survival? aha! soon you won't! hehe

ladyviral said...

foongpc : I know! That is one of the best way to cook Pasta too haha.

But do you use salted butter in your pasta or salt? :P

ladyviral said...

Ayie : Eeep.. true ahah I use tha ton my friend alot too :P.

I cook for my survival... even after marriage, just won't be for my own survival... for both my hubby and my survival haha. Well, he can cook too :P.

Ayie said...

There's karma for you then! haha!

Serve and take care of your future husband, don't make him be the one to cook for you regularly. =)

ladyviral said...

Ayie : haha. Karma ^^;

Yep.. and I will make sure he don't make me cook regularly :P. We shall share our survival hehe :P.

bacon goes very well with carbonara! i dont like angel hair too, its too thin and easily soak up all the sauce.

Ayie said...

ladyviral said...

Thank you coming by to my blog ^-^.

ladyviral said...

BengBeng : Adventerous ar? Why say that? Well, yes it is different but we can always use butter instead usually.

ladyviral said...

Ayie : You say that right! :P If I change means its not good haha.

The dish looks good, I love creamy stuff. I think bacon or smoked sausage would taste good. Happy trying!

ladyviral said...

Pete : Yea me too! But sometimes too much is overdoing it huh? haha.

Thanks I will keep trying until I get fed up! haha. But now to wait for the mood again.

Payson Breton Cream? A type of heavy cream? Keep on trying :)
I think putting in pork bacon would be nice or even smoked salmon *salviates*

Watch iron chef, might ignite your cooking fire :p

ladyviral said...

Cest La Vie : Nope it is whipping cream cream.. so it wrote on the packet.

Yea I believe either pork bacon or beef bacon would be nice. But have to fry them bacons first. I am not smoked salmon so yea :P.

Watch cooking show? I go sleep better haha!
