Backdated : Walk through Chinatown

Today is a holiday! For me at least. Happy Hari Raya Haji to all my Muslim readers :) For non-Muslims, have a good holiday (not applicable to those who are not having this holiday... sorry :S )

Anyway; back to my trip in Singapore in Sept;
After dinner at IKEA;

Four of us decided to take a walk at Chinatown for me to view the lightings of Chinatown during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

I was amazed all right.

The main Road.

They decorated up the stretch of main road at Chinatown. So brightly lit up yea? ^_^

Crossing over at the top of Chinatown, I saw this Chinese Style Pavilion.

How unique… I definitely don’t see this kind of things at where I reside.

View from the pedestrian bridge.

The massive pillars holding up the roof at Chinatown, the sea of people walking below!

Strings of Lights.

Lanterns of Lights hanging everywhere above us! Did you also notice the massive of people? It was a very crowded that night.

I saw this ice cream stall!

I remembered that FuFu posted about his trip in Turkey and of the ice cream that is all rubber like. Click here to read about it.
So I was like oh it is here in Singapore too! I got to try it! The guy played a few tricks on me before giving me the ice cream haha. See the second picture? See an ice cream cone on the floor? The guy actually dropped the cone while he was playing a trick on me :P. He tried to make it like he dropped the cone while passing to me… but he dropped it himself haha! Of course I did get tricked by him. This guy is from Istanbul, was nice to pose for me and smile for me to snap a picture ^_^. This ice cream maybe different from the one FuFu has, but it was something I had to try.

As we exited Chinatown;
I saw statues that depict the Mid-Autumn story.
Chang Er.

“The time of this story is around 2170 B.C. The earth once had ten suns circling over it, each took its turn to illuminate to the earth. But one day all ten suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved by a strong and tyrannical archer Hou Yi. He succeeded in shooting down nine of the suns. One day, Hou Yi stole the elixir of life from a goddess. However his beautiful wife Chang Er drank the elixir of life in order to save the people from her husband's tyrannical rule. After drinking it, she found herself floating and flew to the moon. Hou Yi loved his divinely beautiful wife so much, he didn't shoot down the moon.”

Wu Kang.

“Wu Kang was a shiftless fellow who changed apprenticeships all the time. One day he decided that he wanted to be an immortal. Wu Kang then went to live in the mountains where he importuned an immortal to teach him. First the immortal taught him about the herbs used to cure sickness, but after three days his characteristic restlessness returned and he asked the immortal to teach him something else. So the immortal to teach him chess, but after a short while Wu Kang's enthusiasm again waned. Then Wu Kang was given the books of immortality to study. Of course, Wu Kang became bored within a few days, and asked if they could travel to some new and exciting place. Angered with Wu Kang's impatience, the master banished Wu Kang to the Moon Palace telling him that he must cut down a huge cassia tree before he could return to earth. Though Wu Kang chopped day and night, the magical tree restored itself with each blow, and thus he is up there chopping still.”

Chang Er on the moon?

I am not sure about this statue. Could it be Chang Er on the moon? I am not sure.
I took the explanations of the statues from The Stories of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.

After the walk in Chinatown for me to view the beautiful lightings we decided to go for ice cream (yes more ice cream for me!). But that I shall save it for my next post before I make this post all too long :). Be sure to return for my next post yea :P? Have a Happy 3-day Weekend!

I bet S'pore's Chinatown is way way better than our local Chinatown here.

I tried the Turkish ice cream one time and I loved it. Super creamy yummy.

ladyviral said...

Mariuca : Yea it does, when I was there, I was really amused.. (was like a young girl all over again! haha)

Oh yes I know how that feels... I have been wanting to sleep and sleep :P.

ladyviral said...

levian : Really?! That shows how much I go to Sg. Wang or even BB Plaza. hahaha! I barely step foot into KL itself XD.

Oh yes it does! They decorate the streets of Orchard... every year with a different theme and then along the streets there will be an ice maker to make it like as if it is snowing!

Lets go this year XD.

levian said...

woot! so i assume you will be sponsoring me? i don't mind if you pack me into a luggage as long as we can get through. *ultra super puppy eyes* :p sounds to me you have been celebrating your christmas in spore for many years? lucky you! *buddy punch* :)

ladyviral said...

levian : Sponsoring? >.> I have been sponsored too XD. Can't afford myself hahaha.

FedEx you over? :P Naw not many years, just this recent of last 2 years including this year, will be my 3rd ^_^.

levian said...

does your husband work in KL together with you too? imagining going to n fro spore is already so exciting itself! i had a friend who recently just visited spore n all she can talked about is shopping n orchard road's gigantic christmas tree! ahhhh! XD

ladyviral said...

levian : Oh no, hubby works in Singapore. Well, when you go there as a vacation it is fun... when you travel to and fro too much, it gets tiring... Sometimes, I rather have more off days just to travel instead of just three days.

I haven't seen them christmas trees yet... I did see some decorations :P. Even their Budget Terminal is decorated with gigantic fake ornaments at the entrance and the conveyor belts of the luggage collection!

levian said...

wow, so you guys are like working in 2 places separately during weekdays? how about weekends? catching each other every weekends has gotta be tiring. now i get a bigger picture of you being independent in a relationship. you continue to impress me! you are such a strong woman. hugs. :) i bet soon we will be seeing photographs of the decorations, or christmas trees as big as a building, etc here. woot woot! :p

ladyviral said...

levian : Yea... and we do not see each other every weekend. But we spend time playing game with each other :P.

Impress you eh? Guess I have not shown my bad side yet hahahah!

Christmas decorations? Oh yes soon you will! So wait for it ;).
