Deepavali Open House

I know a lot of you are anticipating my R.O.M. post; but since that is a backdated post… it can wait a little while more to be posted. I also noticed a number of people are eager to see my R.O.M. pictures (or there is ~dolly~ who wants to see my wedding pictures :P (Donna, I no wedding pictures yet, they are my R.O.M pictures nia) or some who wants to see how I look like); but somehow I am not too excited about posting my mug shots here for fear of unwanted things happening. But we will see how it goes.

So instead of my R.O.M. post, I will post this recent happening. Attending Deepavali Open House held by my colleague on 24th October 2009, Saturday.

We shared a gift for the host.
Dewar’s White Label. We didn’t get to drink it!

It was a really hot afternoon! My colleagues and I had to journey for about one hour or more to our destination.

Passing by places like;
Dirty swamp river.
Old shop houses. Now I haven’t seen this kind of shop houses for some time now.

We arrived at the house. Rested a bit and I found this.
Rice decoration. His family and him decorated on their own. Very nice!

So we went for food. It was lunch time and we were all hungry.
The food!Glorious food! Yummy!

Closer view of the food.
Nasi Biryani (Nasi Biryani as describe by Wikipedia)
Putu Mayam ( Putu Mayam as describe by Wikipedia)
Thosai (Thosai as describe by Wikipedia)
Coconut ChutneyEaten with Thosai.
Dhal(Dhal as describe by Wikipedia)
Curry Chicken
Dry Curry Mutton
Sweet Sour Fish
Stir Fried Vegetables
The food is all yummy~ I do miss Indian delicacies. I had quite an amount that day but did not have a lot because I fear for the hot weather; I might get sick eating too much spicy food. Oh I so want more now hehehe.

Thank you my colleague for such great hospitality and delicious food. I had a great time.

I have never been to Deepavali open house. The food served is different from what i normally see during Hari Raya open House. Too bad, there is too little Indians in Sarawak. The ration is like 1:1000 . One Indian to 1000 other races.

I went to a deepavali celebration on oct 18 and the food was great. No putumayam was served though. But we had nice roti with tandoori chicken, rice, mixed veggies etc.

ladyviral said...

Willie : that is unfortunate... their food is yummy... and it is very different form the Malay's open house, usually malay would have fried rice, fried meehoon and rendang some even have satay hehee.

ladyviral said...

Mei Teng : wow tandoori chicken? Now I should ask my colleague to make next year hahaha!

dry curry mutton or mutton varuval is one of the best dish to go with white rice.

Oh no problem right... ok :). I will try to reduce the size and send them over... shhhhh ;).

ladyviral said...

Salitype- Eng : It isn't my fault :P. I didn't make you have such cravings...

oh the food is yummy. I do love Indian food but I always eat it moderately because I fear being too heaty.

ladyviral said...

BengBeng : Yea it is! I never known an Indian family who would do this just in their own house. My colleague is the first :).

Oh I remember when I used to eat putu mayam with brown sugar and coconut haha. I miss those.

ladyviral said...

Life Ramblings : Oh so it is called a Kolam... I never knew ^_^".

Whoops another hungry reader :P.

ladyviral said...

~dolly~ : INeed to ask him hahaha. That or because I always post at this kind of time that he is actually posting too haha.

Food pictures are nicer than the humans mar :P. (born eater not poser) hahaha.

The humans are shy :P. Don't want to put up people's pictures in case they don't like it hee~

Faisal Admar said...

haha. so you didn't manage to drink it eh? looks good though :)

the best dish would be the veggie. haha. looks tempting! :D

ladyviral said...

Faisal : Yea so sad... my colleague had a Chivas served at his place, but I didn't drink it either... too early of the day~

Vege is tempting? hahaha I like the mutton more :P.

foongpc said...

Wow! So far? Took you 1 hour to reach your friend's house!

foongpc said...

I used to like putu mayam as a kid. Now I don't really fancy it. Prefer the curry chicken and sweet sour fish and of course the vegetables! : )

sunnymama said...

Looks like you had great fun! Love the rice decoration and the food looks delicious. :)

ladyviral said...

Pete : I didn't really take the dhal though. Somehow think that dhal would be better with Roti Prata / Canai. haha

Oh the mutton is good.. I took heaps of it :P.

ladyviral said...

chris : Thank you! ^_^

ladyviral said...

xin : hahaa! Your Deepavali open house seem to have lots more food :P.

sunnymama : Yes I did :). Except for the heat :P All else was good hehee.

The Indian food looks different from the Indian food where I live. I suppose the variations are different in every country. I love Indian food, the only thing is, it's not easy to make without the spices. There's no store that I know of in my city that sells Indian spices so I resort to look online.

Dora said...

It's good to visit coll's hse on festive season. Yeah too much spicy food may cause sore throat but sometimes it's just difficult to control, hahaha...

ladyviral said...

Rose : Hard to ger spices? Yea eventually I think it is only in the Indian populated countries that holds much more of the spices. :)

ladyviral said...

Dora : I know! I tis the temptation! Just have to eat hahaha :P.
